Adventure Playgrounds

VAL supports the provision of adventure playgrounds in Leicester City.

Leicester City Council (LCC) commissions services to support Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Sector (VCSE) groups and organisations in Leicester.

This contract provides support for the VCSE in a number of areas including governance, business planning, financial management, volunteering, measuring impact and marketing.

In 2017 the contract for this support was awarded to Voluntary Action LeicesterShire (VAL). Specific in this contract is the provision of support to Adventure Playgrounds (AP) located in Leicester City.

What are Adventure Playgrounds?

Adventure Playgrounds are OFSTED registered and provide supervised play provision for young people. A wide range of activities are on offer which aim to encourage physical, mental and social development in young people via play opportunities.

Where are the Adventure Playgrounds?

There are nine Adventure Playgrounds in the City located in:

      • St. Andrews
      • Highfields
      • New Parks
      • Braunstone
      • Saffron Lane
      • St Matthews
      • Mowmacre Hill
      • Woodgate
      • Northfields

How are Adventure Playgrounds funded?

The Adventure Playgrounds receive funding from a number of organisations, foremost of which is Leicester City Council who provide a grant for play provision. VAL’s overall aim is to work in partnership with the playgrounds to make them more sustainable and resilient to the current funding climate.
