Special advisers are temporary civil servants appointed to add a political dimension to the advice and assistance available to Ministers. In doing so they reinforce the political impartiality of the permanent Civil Service by distinguishing the source of political advice and support.
The office for civil society (OCS) is responsible for policy relating to young people, volunteers, charities, social enterprises and public service mutual.
OCS is part of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport. At present the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media has one special advisor called Sophia True.
