Anstey Alpacas – Nicola’s Story

Read how working with Alpacas and volunteering to do something different has helped Nicola.

Nicola applied for several volunteering roles VAL had advertised on the Volunteering Website and decided to go for a role at ANSTEY Alpacas who work in partnership with schools in Leicester and Leicestershire.

Located In the heart of Charnwood Forest, in Leicestershire, Anstey Alpacas teaches and supports young people about the various aspects of rearing and caring for livestock as well as growing and producing fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers.

Away from the animals the young people also learn about vegetables, fruit and flowers and how the different seasons affects the different produce. From sowing the seeds and nurturing the young plants through to picking the crop, you learn how to manage the soil in different weather conditions.

Anstey Alpacas ambition is to provide young people with a different and alternative experience to what they may receive in a school and classroom environment.

Nicola has been volunteering with the organisation for 3-6 months now:

“I’ve definitely enjoyed doing something both interesting and useful the role has really worked for me.”
