Help to Regain Confidence

Work.Live.Leicestershire Project - Tackling unemployment in rural Leicestershire

The Work.Live.Leicestershire (WiLL) programme help people who are economically inactive or unemployed who are living in rural Leicestershire to move into job search, training, or employment. Providing volunteer support and opportunities for people to gain experience and confidence.

Kevin had worked as a coal miner and ran his own gardening business. He was able to support himself and his family, however, two years ago his luck changed. He had health complications that left him unemployed and struggling to cope living on £400 a month.

Kevin found out about the project through VAL. Over several months, our team supported him, and helped him address multiple barriers that prevented him from moving forward with his life.

Now able to afford transport, he can visit his son and start to enjoy life again. He’s met somebody new and is enjoying looking after his dog with less financial stress. He’s also started playing golf again and is looking to buy a second hand saxophone to rediscover his musical talents.

Kevin is now looking to apply for work that’s right for him. He’s keen to take up gardening on a voluntary basis. This way he can help others, enjoy life and earn once again.

Before I was in a bad way. But now I’m up here and that’s thanks to the project”
