Volunteer Stories – Melton Volunteer

Read how a volunteer in Melton has helped with the COVID-19 vaccination process and how they are supporting their community.

Volunteers’ Week – It’s a chance to say thank you for the contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK and a great way to recognise and thank all our volunteers, for all the amazing things they’re doing to help us make a difference.

Melton Volunteer has a full time job and had not volunteered with VAL prior to their request for vaccination centre volunteers at the beginning of the COVID vaccination programme. They had not considered volunteering until their parents received the invitation to have a vaccination.

‘I thought the least I could do was to help somehow as part of the vaccination programme. It has been nice to help in a sector I am not familiar with and I have enjoyed meeting a group of people I would be unlikely to meet normally.  The experience has given me a better appreciation of the effort that goes in to this sort of programme.

In the future, I think I will have a look at what else I might be able to do with VAL once they no longer require help at vaccination centres.

I think the vaccination-volunteering programme has been well run and organised – the people at VAL, and their volunteers, have all been helpful and I have enjoyed helping out.’
