Diabetes UK online awareness session request

Diabetes UK have a network of trained speaker volunteers who can deliver free awareness talks remotely.

Diabetes UK is requesting local VCSE organisations to host an online awareness session. The idea of the awareness talks is to make sure that people with diabetes are able to plan ahead to avoid possible complications. These talks can be offered flexibly at a time to suit, and last between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on group size.

Ramadan in 2021 will run from around 23 April for 29 or 30 days, ending with Eid al-Fitr, a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide. Anyone planning to fast during Ramadan that has diabetes is recommended to speak to their healthcare team two months before.

The talks cover:

  • An overview of what diabetes is
  • The different types of diabetes
  • Possible complications
  • The impact of fasting on the body
  • Food choices
  • The importance of discussing plans with a healthcare professional

Details of the support Diabetes UK provide can be found here.
