Join Our VALUES Team! – We are looking for a dedicated and passionate support worker to join our VALUES team, where we support individuals with learning disabilities to engage in social and leisure activities, learning, and volunteering. Experience: Social Care: 1 year (preferred)
Work Location: In person

Accountable to: VALUES Team Manager

Main Areas of Activity:

  • Supporting individuals with a learning disability in small groups or 1:1 support to take part in social and leisure activities, volunteering or employment related activities.
  • Covering a range of sessions when the usually allocated worker is on leave. Working to a variable timetable, mostly in sociable hours but some early evenings and weekends on occasion.

Main Tasks:

  1. To support people with learning disabilities to participate in volunteering and social and leisure activities, working a variety of sessions each week, mainly during the core hours of 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday, with some additional evenings or weekends. You will need to be able to be flexible and enjoy a varying timetable to cover already established sessions.
  2. To be able to work with a range of clients with varying needs to participate in a range of activities, including sports, cooking, arts, drama and computers.
  3. To bring innovative ideas to the groups while allowing for them to have real choices over their support and falling within the parameters of the established plans.
  4. To be able to work independently and as part of the team.
  5. To provide personal care when required and occasion administration of medication.
  6. To support the VALUES project to promote the positive contribution people with learning disabilities can make within the community.
  7. To ensure the safety of people with learning disabilities at all times; contributing and adhering to risk assessments and following Voluntary Action LeicesterShire’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  8. To be able help people with a learning disability to have fun, learn new skills and be as independent as possible.
  9. To be able to push a wheelchair.
  10. To provide accurate records, including daily notes, incident reports etc.
  11. To assist with keeping the centre clean and rooms stocked of necessary items.

Corporate responsibilities:

  2. To be largely self-serving in terms of computing, record keeping, filing, maintaining petty cash and confidential information.
  3. To ensure a safe working environment in accordance with Health & Safety Regulations, including fire drills.
  4. To accord with confidentiality and data protection policies.
  5. To maintain an awareness of current instructions circulated by the Management Team.
  6. To attend training events as required.
  7. To work with managers at VAL collaboratively as outlined in the competencies framework.
  8. The post holder may be required to perform other reasonable duties commensurate with this post as requested by the Management Team.
