Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland is building on the success of its established and hugely popular Men in Sheds project in Loughborough by launching a weekly session for women.
Whilst the project rapidly became a success with local older men, many older women are also demanding the opportunity to pursue practical hobbies and interests with a group of like-minded peers. In response to this demand, Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland will be launching a regular weekly session for older women (50 plus) at the Loughborough shed in January 2018.
An information session for any women interested in taking part will take place on Tuesday 5th December (10am-1pm) and regular sessions are planned to start on Tuesday 9th January, operating weekly from then on, between 9.30am and 1.30pm. The shed is located in the Oaks Industrial Estate, Festival Drive Loughborough, LE11 5XN.
Tony Donovan, Executive Director of Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland announced: “We are delighted that women are demanding access to the project and we are looking forward to making Women in Sheds a place where older women can share skills and support each other. Since it opened, the Shed has had a positive effect on the health and wellbeing of many older men and we’re confident about the benefits the project can bring to women. We would like to thank the Leicester Freemasons and the Maud Elkington Trust for their support with making this development possible.”
