Update on the pandemic and the roadmap to freedom

On 6 July 2021 the Department of Health and Social Care and The Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP published an Oral statement to Parliament titled Update on the pandemic and the roadmap to freedom.

In the statement the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care explained to the House that they are reducing the dose interval for under 40s from 12 weeks to 8… which will mean every adult should have the chance to be double jabbed by mid-September 2021.
He remains confident that we can move to Step 4 in England on the 19 July 2021 and confirmed the government will make its final decision on this on 12 July 2021.

As part of step 4 of the Government’s COVID-19 roadmap, double vaccinated people will no longer be legally required to self-isolate if they are identified as a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case, the Health and Social Care Secretary has confirmed today (Tuesday 6 July).

Also on 6 July 2021 the Department of Health and Social Care and The Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP released a press release titled Self-isolation to be eased for fully vaccinated adults in step 4.

As part of step 4 of the Government’s COVID-19 roadmap, double vaccinated people will no longer be legally required to self-isolate if they are identified as a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case).
To ensure young people can make the most of their education as restrictions continue to ease, the Government also plans to exempt those aged under 18 from self-isolation if they are a close contact.

The new rules will come into effect from 16 August 2021, if the Government takes a decision to move into step 4.
The decision to move to step 4 is being confirmed on 12 July 2021.
