Mary took up a position with LOROS by design charity shop in the Market Place based in Leicester which was advertised on the VAL volunteering website.
Each year LOROS has to raise £6 million to keep the charity going to provide services for patients and their families and their 32 charity shops spread across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland play a vital part in helping them raise that much needed income. All of their shops could not run without the support of volunteers, so by signing up as a volunteer you are keeping a vital income stream open whilst supporting a very worthwhile cause.
Mary commented:
“Looking at your website and seeing a variety of volunteer roles helped focus and inspire me to choose a role suitable for my needs. I had a friend who spent her last days in LOROS so I thought this would be a good cause to volunteer for and a positive way forward for me. I have really enjoyed the time I have spent at LOROS learning new skills and meeting people from different walks of life. I have helped two people buy their wedding dresses which has given me a great deal of satisfaction seeing there excitement at choosing an affordable dream dress but also knowing a high end item will benefit someone at the hospice.”
From volunteering at LOROS, you’ll meet lots of amazing people who will become friends for life, learn more about charity shop retail which is both exciting and rewarding, and you might even pick up a treasured pre-loved item along the way.
