After seeing the promotion for the Ask VAL pop-up event at John Storer House, Transition Community Allotment reached out to VAL.
Transition Loughborough is a community movement focused on reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting local infrastructure in Loughborough, Leicestershire, UK.
One of the main goals of Transition Town groups is to encourage people to grow their own food. This not only helps community members grow fresh produce, but also strengthens local food production, reduces the use of oil-based products in gardening, and builds stronger community connections.
The group needed help with recruiting volunteers, as they had previously been able to utilise refugees living at a nearby hotel as volunteers. However, since the hotel has closed and the refugees have moved on, this has left significant gaps in the volunteer taskforce.
As their volunteering opportunity – Allotment Volunteer – was already on the VAL volunteering website, we promoted the opportunity at the Ask VAL Pop up event and also contacted all the volunteers that have registered on the VAL volunteering website who are based in Loughborough. As a result, several volunteers applied for the role. The position has since been removed from the website as it has now been filled.
