Volunteer Stories – Anthony

Read how Anthony volunteered to help out with the COVID-19 vaccination process

Volunteers’ Week – It’s a chance to say thank you for the contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK and a great way to recognise and thank all our volunteers, for all the amazing things they’re doing to help us make a difference.

Anthony says having previously worked for AGE UK the idea of volunteering is very familiar to him. When lockdown hit, he was inspired to use his time and energy to help others and so he began to volunteer at the vaccination centres.

‘I have volunteered for almost a year at four hospital sites, and other non-hospital clinics, across Leicestershire. It is very rewarding to help others and reassure them whilst they attend for a vaccination.

I am impressed with the NHS and VAL Teams, and how quickly and efficiently the vaccine hubs have been setup and run. I really want to continue to volunteer for as long as I am needed, and able.

I believe many organisations would not exist or operate without the support of volunteers and I am proud to be one of them.

Volunteering has allowed me to meet others and help at a time of great need. It is very rewarding to help others and reassure them whilst they attend for a vaccination.  It has helped my mental state, helping others in the community after a period of isolation in lockdown’
