Volunteer Stories – Sarah

Exploring New Career Paths through Volunteering - Read how Sarah's volunteer role gave her the confidence to explore more job opportunities in the future.

Sarah was looking to explore new career paths and develop new skills, so she decided to try volunteering.

After discovering the VAL Volunteering Website, Sarah found an opportunity at the Loughborough Wellbeing Centre at the Sileby Wellbeing Café.

In this role, Sarah provided refreshments to people attending wellbeing sessions. She enjoyed interacting with visitors and felt like she was helping make a positive impact on the community. Through her volunteering, Sarah developed skills in communication and customer service. She was also introduced to mental health and wellbeing services, which she found interesting. Sarah was grateful for the experience, saying,

This is a fantastic service. Thank you so much.”

Volunteering gave Sarah insight into the health and social care sector, and she built connections that could help her pursue job opportunities in the future. Overall, it helped her feel more confident and opened her eyes to new career possibilities.
