Volunteer Stories – Zuli’s Story

As part of Volunteers Week 2022, we are sharing some of the stories of our staff, who volunteer outside of VAL.

Volunteers’ Week – It’s a chance to say thank you for the contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK and a great way to recognise and thank all our volunteers, for all the amazing things they’re doing to help us make a difference.

Zuli Stannard – Development Officer, VAL

Outside of my role at VAL as a Development Officer with WiLL, I also volunteer as a board member for Pedestrian. After being a Trustee since January 2019, I have now moved into the role as their Chair. Having previously volunteered and worked for them it’s been great to get a different perspective of an organisation I have grown to care about a lot over the last 10 years.

Pedestrian is a leading arts organisation and charity specialising in music and arts, providing education, training and outreach projects for young people at risk, vulnerable adults and communities in Leicester, Leicestershire and across the Midlands.

During the various lockdowns and changes we have had to adapt quickly in order to be able to provide support to those who need it the most. I’ve got to know the staff much better and have been so impressed with the amount of effort they have put in to ensuring the young people they support have been kept engaged and educated.
