Census Day

Census Day is on Sunday 21 March and your support will help to make it a success.

It is important everyone completes the census questionnaire as the information will affect us all, by helping to decide funding and ensuring local communities get the services and support they need.

Amongst other things, the 2021 Census asks about ethnicity, religion, and national identity, so it is particularly important for communities across Leicester to take part to ensure their local public services meet everyone’s needs, not only now but over the next ten years and beyond.

Every household will receive a letter with a unique access code that will allow them to complete the questionnaire online.

Printed copies of the questionnaire will also be available for anyone who does not have access to the internet.

Details of what support Census Support Centres provide and other census support centres across the county can be accessed here.

The Census Act 1990 makes it compulsory for everyone in England and Wales to take part in the census. It also sets the maximum fine for not completing the census. Further details of the legal basis for the census can be found here : https://census.gov.uk/help/do-i-have-to-do-the-census/legal-basis-for-the-census

If a person can’t complete their own census, someone they trust, like a family member or friend, can complete it for them. This link explains how to complete the census for someone else.

Local VCSE organisations may want to encourage the communities they support to complete their census form.
