DBS check procedures during COVID-19

A resource for you to understand more about performing DBS checks during COVID-19.

UK Government Website

According to the Government website there have been temporary changes to ID checking guidelines as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

As there will be difficulty in complying with the required stringent checks, it was needed to implement temporary changes so that DBS checks can still be carried out.

The change will enable:

  • ID documents to be viewed over video link
  • Scanned images to be used in advance of the DBS check being submitted

Please note, the change should only be implemented for urgent cases where it is not possible to follow the normal identity checking guidelines. The applicant must present the original versions of these documents when they first attend their employment or volunteering role.

DBS Direct

DBS introduced temporary measures to the ID Checking procedures on 19 March 2020 where ID checkers are able to accept scanned copies of ID’s to verify an individual’s details.

As from Monday 30th March 2020 DBS have implemented a Fast-Track Emergency COVID-19 DBS application service which is only available to specific roles within NHS health services, social care services or social services functions. In order to use this Fast Track system you must have an account with DBS.

This Fast Track Service is ONLY for those applicants that WILL be providing assistance with NHS health services, social care services or social services functions.
