Joanna joined the board in June 2016. Although currently working as a Business Manager for a graphic design company, Joanna’s previous roles in the voluntary and public sector means she brings with her a wealth of relevant knowledge and experience.
Joanna is a passionate supporter of the voluntary sector. She started her career as a project worker, delivering programmes of personal and social development to disadvantaged and disaffected young people across the Midlands. Since then she has helped establish extended schools provision at Beaumont Leys School, managed the major donor programme at the Princes Trust, helped to set up and sustain social enterprises as the Business Manager at New Dawn New Day and supported the delivery of the government’s flagship youth programme, the National Citizen Service (NCS) across the UK as a Partnership Manager at UK Youth.
The work undertaken at VAL has always been an inspiration to Joanna. Given her experience of delivering projects to help improve young people lives, this area of VAL’s work is of particular interest to Joanna. However, her motivation in joining the board was to be able to make a contribution to an organisation that is able to change the lives of so many different people, whether that is through project delivery, volunteering or by supporting other voluntary sector organisations to survive and thrive.
