Elderberries Gardening Group

This is a unique gardening group that keeps volunteers engaged throughout the winter months, a time when many people experience isolation and loneliness.

Organisation – Elderberries Gardening Group

VAL has been working with the Elderberries Community Gardening Group in Market Harborough for the last few years, introducing a number of Work Live Leicestershire (WiLL) Project participants to the organisation to undertake some volunteering.

Read Carls story here of how he joined the WiLL project to help him gain confidence, learn new skills, improve his general mental health and eventually get into paid employment. https://valonline.org.uk/casestudy/building-confidence/

‘I am fully enjoying my volunteering experience at Elderberries Community Gardening. It has helped me improve my confidence and communication skills. It has also helped me to socially engage more confidently with other people.’

This is quite a unique gardening group as most gardening/ outdoor groups will cease activities during the winter months, but Elderberries strives to help keep volunteers engaged during the winter months when some people suffer from isolation & loneliness the most.

VAL has been able to connect volunteers with the organisation in the past and we will be working closely with them in the next quarter to recruit some additional volunteers.
