A committee member of Enderby Lawn Tennis Club contacted the helpline requesting supporting with renewal of their lease. The referral was allocated and thereafter, VAL recognised that the signing of the new lease would make the trustees personally liable.
VAL helped the committee discuss the various options of converting to an incorporated charity. They then helped with adapting the model charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) model governing document. Followed by how to present their recommendations to the membership at an extraordinary general meeting (EGM).
Once the committee had the member’s approval, VAL supported the committee member with the application process. They were granted charitable status within one day of submission.
