Volunteer Stories – Stephen

Read Stephen's story of his experience of volunteering as a skipper at the Peter Le Marchant Trust.

Based in the heart of Loughborough, the Peter Le Marchant Trust is a charity that provides canal boat trips on the beautiful waterways of Leicestershire. They offer a range of well-being and seasonal trips for individuals, groups and families.

Stephen was keen on volunteering and applied through our VAL Volunteering Website for the role of Volunteer Skipper with the Peter Le Marchant Trust. Skippers are vital to the trusts’ seven day a week operation and require significant training as they operate to regulations set down by the Maritime and Coastal Agency.

They were seeking a volunteer crew member for their Canal Boat Crew. The crew offers flexible roles and excellent training across various positions, helping to operate their canal boat trips on the local waterways.

Stephen says,

“The organisation got back to me and invited me to visit them. I felt welcomed and valued. I genuinely enjoy working here. The supportive environment and meaningful work make me look forward to returning each time. Thank you for helping me to find the perfect role for me”.

If you have a passion or a background in boating or sailing this opportunity could be for you!
