Volunteer Stories – Marion

Read how Marion volunteered to use her skills in organising and communicating, to give back to her community.

Volunteers’ Week – It’s a chance to say thank you for the contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK and a great way to recognise and thank all our volunteers, for all the amazing things they’re doing to help us make a difference.

Marion is a retired teacher and wanted to help during the pandemic, she felt her skills in organising and communicating would be useful so applied to be a Vaccination Volunteer with VAL.

‘It gave me a focus during the lockdown. Being useful is important for my general health and wellbeing. I am a confident person but definitely improved my social skills and allowed me to interact rather than being stuck at home. It was important to work as a team of volunteers and to follow instructions of NHS staff.

I’ve met some really nice members of the public and fortunately very few awkward people! This restores your faith in people.’
