Volunteering is a great way to build skills and confidence whilst also helping people in your community.
No matter how much time you have or whatever your experience, there’s a role to suit everyone.
In Spring 2021, VAL set up a youth panel consisting of 12 young people.
This panel was established to increase young people into volunteering and support community groups to recruit. The group lasted for one year, it was a short pilot to scope out what works and what doesn’t.
We are seeking two volunteers to expand our youth academy coaching team. Operating on Saturday mornings, 10:00-11:30am, for children aged 5-10 years of all abilities.

The aim of this event was to bring volunteer involving organisations and young people together. Young people were given the opportunity to find out what volunteer opportunities were available and make a direct application to the organisation. (10 people attended)
VAL delivered some ‘Why Volunteer’ workshop sessions for De Montfort University students in January and February 2023. These events aimed to get young people to think about the benefits of volunteering, not only in relation to CV building, but also to strengthen their personal development skills and improve their mental health. 60 students attended and were offered support to explore volunteering.
This event aimed to encourage Sixth Form students to register with the VAL Volunteering website and to begin their journey of volunteering. Students were also given details of local organisations that were looking to recruit young volunteers. 50 students attended the session to look into volunteer opportunities.
This event was aimed at groups and organisations that actively want to recruit young people as volunteers. It was then followed by a pilot bespoke volunteer matching service during August and September 2023 where VAL staff offered extra support to young people to get them into volunteering. This would include making personal introductions to the organisations and arranging the meetings if the young people requested that. The matching service was offered to all young people (age under 25) registered on the VAL Volunteering website. Ten young people requested support and three of those went on to volunteer. (12 organisations attended)
Microvolunteering enables people to offer their time in small chunks.
Volunteers can manage how often they take part in micro volunteering activities, and can fit them flexibly around other commitments.

Since my first meeting, we have always been impressed by VAL’s
professionalism and customer service. The team are so friendly and easy to work with but also highly skilled and will always go above and beyond to help even in the most challenging circumstances.
Choosing to rent an office at VAL has been an excellent decision. The convenient location, welcoming reception team, and access to well-equipped meeting spaces and extra storage provide the flexibility and support we need. I highly recommend VAL for anyone seeking a professional and supportive office environment.
Before I joined VALUES I had no friends but now I have a lot more friends! The support is great! I enjoy the activities. If I didn’t have VALUES then I would be in my house!
I am really grateful for the guidance provided by VAL. Their support has given me greater confidence in completing funding documentation and understanding what is required for funding applications.
